Upgrading Drupal 6 to Drupal 7

Upgrading from Drupal 6.20 to Drupal 7.0

 

 

Work in progress!!  Don't upgrade the production server yet!

 

 

First:  Visit Drupal's Guide for some precautions, notes and general guide.

Second:  Create a "Test" Drupal site that is a mirror of your backup site. We'll test an upgrade on this site.

Basic update plan for Backing up a Drupal based website that is hosted on GoDaddy to my local computer.

I am backing up the site to test an update and prepare the production site for the update.

First:  Make sure you have a copy of the Drupal version installed on Godaddy's server.

     - need drupal-6.16

Second: Make sure your local site has a database ready for Drupal install.

Notes and steps I took to update my Drupal 6.16 System to Drupal 6.20. This is on my backup site to test the update before I try it on a production server. I'm running it on a Mac with Snow Leopard 10.6.7

Update: I am going through this post and updating my Drupal 6.22 to 6.25 on a Mac mini server running Snow Leopard 10.6.8  I'll make a diff in notes with This type of text.

First I've created a local copy of my Drupal based site and re-created it on my local mac. Make sure your Drupal versions and Backup modules are the same between the two.

In this case I'm using the Backup and Migrate module.

1. Go to Host site in production >>  Backup and Migrate  and do a "Quick Backup"

2. Put the local backup site off-line under Site maintenance
