Basic update plan for Backing up a Drupal based website that is hosted on GoDaddy to my local computer.
I am backing up the site to test an update and prepare the production site for the update.
First: Make sure you have a copy of the Drupal version installed on Godaddy's server.
- need drupal-6.16
Second: Make sure your local site has a database ready for Drupal install.
Install that old version to bring up the base configuration.
1. Backup the database content itself. >> Use Backup and Migrate module. Store it locally.
2. Use Dreamweaver to download all Modules and Themes to the local computer.
** Important to have the Drupal and all modules exactly the same to test the update. Especially Backup and Migrate. You'll need to restore the content to the local machine. You'll want all the same rev levels of modules to make sure the update works.
** Once done you'll be updating the modules. Then doing an update, then you'll need to update the GoDaddy site.
3. Install the old drupal-6.16 on the local machine and do the basic setup.,
3.1. Put the site in maintenance mode.
4. Enable all the modules and make sure all enabled core modules match 100% with Host Site.
4.1. Run the update.php and system check.
4.2. When it all looks good. Restore the backed up content data.
5. Put the site back in on-line mode. Double check all data and surf your site.
Follow This:
-- Updating the local site to Latest Drupal 6.20 and all modules.
Verify 100% that everything is the same. The local site should be a mirror of the production site on GoDaddy.
Updating the production site..
1. Put the site in maintenance mode.
2. Disable all contributed modules. Delete the ones not in use.
3. Set site back to the default theme.
4. Turn off (disable) Clean URL's
5. Verify steps 1 - 4.
6. Go to the "Hosting" and click the "needs update"
First: A clarification. - I'm on domainspricedright a subset of Godaddy
so the procedures should be similar...
go to the Hosting Dashboard
Go to Value Applications:
On the right: My Management says (2) Updates Required. Click that.
Update Now
It says:
Before we do that.. Back out and re-enable Drupal Site and bring it back on line.
UPGRADE local Site on 6.20 to 7.0 first.. You need all the Module updates as well..
To be continued.
7. See what happens...
